As of 7 a.m. Kyiv time on January 1, 2025, the Agreement on Interwork for the Physical Interconnection Points signed on December 30, 2019 between LLC “Gas TSO of Ukraine” and PJSC Gazprom, specifically between the gas transmission systems of Ukraine and the russian federation has expired. As a result, the transmission of natural gas from the entry point “Sudzha” on the eastern border of Ukraine to the exit points on the western and southern borders has been suspended.
The Ukrainian GTS Operator has informed its international partners regarding this issue in accordance with the established procedure.
Therefore, since January 1 the Ukrainian gas transmission system has been operating in a mode without russian gas transit.
The “Gas TSO of Ukraine” has prepared the infrastructure in advance to operate in zero transit mode and ensure a reliable gas supply to Ukrainian consumers. The company’s team is ready to work under new conditions,” emphasized Dmytro Lyppa, General Director of GTSOU.
The GTSOU has specifically committed to increasing firmed capacities (guaranteed) in order to prepare for the new circumstances and ensure the availability of gas supplies to Ukraine as well as to the European consumers via Ukraine. In 2024, Ukraine obtained firm capacities for the first time, which had been enhanced in the southern direction, named as the “Vertical Corridor”, and also achieved firm capacities from Poland.
The second aspect of the Company’s preparation for zero transit mode was the optimization of the cost side. The Company drastically reduced natural gas consumption for its own purposes and optimized a significant numerous of assets not involved in the gas transmission system.
