The Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine (GTSOU) is actively working on developing and diversifying gas transportation routes to integrate the gas markets of Ukraine and the European Union. Paweł Stanczak, Advisor at the GTSOU’s Representation in the EU, made this announcement during a meeting of the International Gas Union (IGU).
“The Ukrainian GTS has proven reliability and flexibility, successfully meeting the needs of Ukrainian and European customers for transportation services. According to Paweł Stanczak, the Ukrainian Gas TSO is enhancing its European ties through involvement in the development of new gas routes and energy markets.
The company’s key priorities include adapting to changes in European energy markets and creating new routes for gas transportation. In 2024, GTSOU substantially increased firm capacities at interconnection points with the EU countries and introduced firm capacities in the Trans-Balkan direction for the first time.
One of the key achievements of the GTSOU team was confirming the reliability of the GTS operation under zero transit conditions. In early 2025, the company confirmed the results of stress tests on the gas infrastructure conducted in collaboration with the Gas Storage Operator, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and international partners.
GTSOU is actively cooperating on the development of the green gas market with Ukrainian biomethane producers and distribution system operators. The current Ukrainian legislation regulates not only the production but also the export of biomethane. Additionally, the company is envolved in the development of the Central European Hydrogen Corridor (CEHC).
