The Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal together with members of the Ukrainian delegation, which included the CEO of LLC Gas TSO of Ukraine Sergiy Makogon, have met today in Uzhhorod with the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic Eduard Heger.
Cooperation between Ukraine and Slovakia in the field of energy and energy security is strategic in nature. In the course of the meeting, the parties confirmed their common interest in deepening cooperation in the field of oil and natural gas transportation and transit, integration of Ukraine into the European electricity and natural gas markets, including synchronization of the Ukrainian power grid with ENTSO-E and the Ukrainian gas system with ENTSO-G.
The Prime Ministers have also discussed the possibilities to increase natural gas supplies to Ukraine via the territory of the Slovak Republic taking into account that this can only be done according to the agreements between the gas transmission system operators of both countries.
For its part, GTSOU is interested in strengthening strategic cooperation with Slovakia in the field of energy security and expanding opportunities for cross-border natural gas trade. We strive to develop further partnership and are confident that we should continue to make the most of the transit potential: of both countries’ powerful, reliable gas transmission infrastructures and one of Europe’s largest gas storage facilities in Ukraine.
“The Ukrainian-Slovak gas corridor is a convenient and reliable instrument and can provide the transportation of significant volumes of natural gas to EU countries. Let me remind you that in recent years almost 70% of gas transit fell exactly on Slovakia, while imports to Ukraine amounted to 65%. GTSOU is interested in using all the tools available on European gas markets, we support the principle of European energy solidarity and further natural gas markets integration,” said Sergiy Makogon.
