October 08, 2020, Kyiv – During three quarters of 2020, LLC Gas TSO of Ukraine (OGTSU) transported 6.1 billion cubic meters of gas in the shorthaul mode. Starting from the beginning of the year, the increase in demand for the service has become ten times higher.

In particular, during 9 months of 2020, transit volumes from Slovakia amounted to 4.1 billion cubic meters of gas, from Hungary – 1.5 billion cubic meters and from Poland – 0.5 billion cubic meters. Since the launch of the service, 24 non-resident customers and 5 Ukrainian companies have used the shorthaul service.

In September 2020, shorthaul volumes amounted to 1.2 billion cubic meters. The decrease in volumes compared to August is due to lower free capacities of Ukrainian gas storage facilities. However, this is 80 times higher than at the beginning of the year.

“Many traders continue their intakes of gas in the shorthaul mode to underground storage facilities. In September took place the first real, not a test, shorthaul border-to-border transit from Slovakia to Hungary, amounting to almost 2 million cubic meters of gas. We see that our new services are increasingly of interest to foreign and Ukrainian customers. This means that businesses trust the Ukrainian GTS as a partner and see the benefits of using our infrastructure. From our side, we continue to work on the development of services to offer partners even more interesting and high-quality services. Our goal is to build a regional gas hub”, – said Sergiy Makogon, CEO of LLC Gas TSO of Ukraine.

Almost all shorthaul volumes were transported by traders to underground gas storage facilities for storage in the “customs warehouse” mode. In total, starting from the beginning of the year, LLC Gas TSO of Ukraine, in accordance with customers’ bookings, has transported 9.8 billion cubic meters of gas to the UGS operator for storage in the “customs warehouse” mode (including shorthaul volumes).

It should be noted that the shorthaul service, introduced by the LLC Gas TSO of Ukraine on January 1, 2020, allows company’s customers to book gas transmission between Eastern European countries via Ukraine at a special favorable rate. And in a complex with the service “customs warehouse” from the Storage System Operator of Ukraine (JSC “Ukrtransgaz”) foreign and domestic clients are offered convenient and attractive conditions for gas storage in Ukrainian underground storage facilities.
