Together with GTS Operators of Romania and Moldova, GTSOU launches public consultations on the expansion of the Trans-Balkan pipeline’s reverse capacity within the framework of the incremental capacity procedure

Pursuant to the Memorandum of cooperation on the establishment of the south-to-north gas corridor (also known as the “Vertical Corridor”) that was signed on January 19, 2024, the GTSOU, together with its partners from Romania and Moldova, has launched consultations on project documentation as part of the procedure for the incremental capacity on the Trans-Balkan direction.

In accordance with the requirements contained in paragraphs 1 and 2 of section 1 of chapter XX of the GTS Code, between July 3 and August 28, 2023 (i.e., during eight weeks) GTSOU conducted a market demand assessment for capacity expansion at cross-border interconnection points. During the period, all network users  had the right to submit properly executed non-binding applications to the GTS Operator of Ukraine. The Company received applications from the network users  for firm capacities in the direction from Romania to Ukraine at the maximum demand level of 18 mcm per day, and in the direction from the Republic of Moldova to Ukraine at the maximum demand level of about 21 mcm per day.

Based on non-binding applications from network users GTSOU together with the GTS Operators of Romania and Moldova developed the Report on the market demand assessment  for the incremental capacity between the gas transmission system of Romania and the gas transmission system of Ukraine, as well as between the gas transmission system of the Republic of Moldova and the gas transmission system of Ukraine.

On February 1, 2024, the GTSOU launched public consultations on the project proposal for the project of the incremental capacity between the gas transmission system of Romania and the gas transmission system of Ukraine, as well as between the gas transmission system of the Republic of Moldova and the gas transmission system of Ukraine, in accordance with the requirements of paragraph 3 of section 2 of chapter XX of the GTS Code.

Public hearings are simultaneously held by the GTS Operators of Romania and Republic of Moldova. Interested natural gas market participants may submit their comments on the draft project proposal for the project of the incremental capacity between the gas system of Romania and the gas transmission system of Ukraine, as well as for the draft project proposal for the project of the incremental capacity between the gas transmission system of the Republic of Moldova and the gas transmission system of Ukraine until February 29th, 2024, to the following email address: commercial@tsoua.com.
