U.S. Charge d’Affaires visited Ukrainian GTS facilities

Sergiy Makogon, General Director of Gas TSO of Ukraine, and Olga Bielkova, Director of Government and International Affairs, had a meeting with Kristina Kvien, Chargé d’affaires ad interim of the USA. As part of the working visit, the delegation visited one of the key facilities of the Ukrainian gas transmission system – the Uzhhorod compressor station.

The participants discussed the issues of preservation of the transit through the territory of Ukraine in case of commissioning of the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream-2.

«Over all the years of independence the transit has never been interrupted due to the fault of Ukraine. The Ukrainian GTS is reliable, modern and flexible with a transit capacity of 146 billion cubic meters of gas per year. There are no economically justified reasons for the termination of the transit through the territory of Ukraine. The Ukrainian GTS is not only a route for gas supplies, but also a component of European energy security,” said Sergiy Makogon.

In the course of the conversation, the GTSOU executives stressed that the operator of Ukrainian gas transmission system operates pursuant to the rules of the EU Third Energy Package in compliance with the principles of energy solidarity.

“Gas TSO of Ukraine uses all and every opportunity to inform our international partners about the threats to the energy security of Ukraine and Europe in case of Nord Stream-2 launching. We also reaffirm our readiness to continue to ensure gas transit to Europe as well as to be a reliable partner to the EU in the future”, commented Olga Bielkova.
