Ukraine has started physical import of gas from Hungary for the first time

On February 1, 2022, the physical import of natural gas from Hungary has begun. The expected physical delivery volume for the current day is about 3 million cubic meters of the total nomination for imports amounting to 4.7 million cubic meters of gas.

“The Hungarian direction has become the second guaranteed route for gas supplies to Ukraine after Slovakia, even in the absence of the transit”, said Sergiy Makogon, General Director of GTSOU.

The transportation of gas in both directions (UA-HU, HU-UA) became possible due to joint technical measures of Gas TSO of Ukraine and FGSZ, the Hungarian operator

Due to the agreement between GTSOU and FGSZ, the physical import of up to 8 million cubic meters of natural gas per day (2.9 billion cubic meters per year) from Hungary to Ukraine has become possible since January 1, 2022. Together with the available daily capacity from Slovakia (27 million cubic meters), the total firm capacity for gas imports to Ukraine increases to 35 million cubic meters per day.

It should be reminded that as of February 2022, traders have booked more than 195 million cubic meters of capacity for importing natural gas to Ukraine. Of these, some 124. 8 million cubic meters (4.46 million cubic meters per day) are for imports from Hungary.
