40 non-resident traders transport gas to Ukraine for storage

Between April and September, 2023, 40 non-resident companies have been actively using the shorthaul services of the GTS Operator of Ukraine and transporting gas to Ukraine for storage. These include Europe’s largest traders.

Throughout the season, the GTS Operator of Ukraine has concluded 25 new contracts for the provision of transporting services for non-residents. Overall, their number totals at more than 130 foreign clients.

“The reliability and responsibility that the GTS and Storage System Operators demonstrate in the provision of natural gas transportation and storage services have been highly appreciated by European customers. The situation on the European gas market creates a demand for additional storage facilities. This demand can and should be covered by Ukraine that provides its international partners with cost-effective services at very competitive prices,” Dmytro Lyppa, General Director of the GTS Operator of Ukraine, emphasised.

Let it be reminded that in August 2023, GTSOU conducted stress testing of the gas infrastructure of Ukraine. This was done in cooperation with the UGS operator Ukrtransgas, the USAID Energy Security Project (ESP), the Energy Community Secretariat (EnCS), the Directorate General “Joint Research Center” of the European Commission (JRC) (in an observer capacity), Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, the Naftogaz Group, and the Simone Research Group (SRG).

The outcomes of stress testing confirmed the high reliability of the Ukrainian gas infrastructure in wartime conditions, in particular when it comes to gas storage and transportation for the benefit of Ukrainian and foreign customers.
