A GTSOU delegation met with European Commission representatives

A GTSOU delegation led by the Operator’s Director on Transformation and Operational Efficiency Vladyslav Medvedev held a working meeting with Marсus Lippold, Team Leader for Energy at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR). The meeting was also attended by representatives of Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy.

Issues discussed at the meeting included the status quo in Ukraine’s gas industry, GTSOU’s participation in the Trans-Balkan Corridor, as well as development of biomethane and hydrogen markets. Special attention was paid to the EU’s gas security and Ukraine’s role in its provision.

“We are grateful to the European Commission’s representatives and Mr. Marcus Lippold for meaningful cooperation and willingness to support GTSOU’s initiatives at various European fora. On our part, we are doing everything we can to be the European community’s reliable and efficient partner when it comes to natural gas transportation. We have successfully undergone the second wartime winter, fulfilling all obligations before foreign customers,” – the Operator’s Director on Transformation and Operational Efficiency Vladyslav Medvedev stressed.

The Ukrainian delegation emphasised the importance of recognising imported biomethane and biomethane-based fuels in the Union database.

Let it be reminded that at the initiative of Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy, GTSOU and one of the Naftogaz Group companies – JSC “Ukrtransgaz” – are preparing for the 2024 stress test. Its goal is to confirm the sufficient capacity and reliability of Ukraine’s gas transmission system and underground storage facilities amid bombings and cessation of Russian gas transit. The 2024 stress testing of gas infrastructure will be modelled and performed by a working group comprising and supported by USAID Energy Security Project, Energy Community Secretariat, European Commission’s Directorate General “Joint Research Center,” international technical experts, as well as GTSOU, NJSC “Naftogaz of Ukraine” and Ukrtransgaz, respectively.
