In November traders re-exported 150 million cubic meters of gas from the “customs warehouse” to the EU

December 4, 2020, Kyiv In November 2020, traders re-exported 152.3 million cubic meters of natural gas from the “customs warehouse” in Ukrainian UGS facilities to the EU countries, including some 113.7 million cubic meters to Hungary and some 38.6 million cubic meters to Poland in shorthaul mode.

In contrast to previous months, in November, GTSOU customers did not use the services of gas transportation to the “customs warehouse”, which was predictable, as the autumn-winter season – the period of active gas withdrawal from gas storage facilities – had started. In total, since the beginning of the year, GTSOU has transmitted 10.1 billion cubic meters of gas (including shorthaul volumes) to the Operator of UGSF for storage in the “customs warehouse” in accordance with customer orders.

Over 11 months of 2020, Gas TSO of Ukraine has transmitted from the EU countries to Ukraine 6.1 billion cubic meters of gas in the shorthaul mode. In particular, volumes from Slovakia amounted to 4.1 billion cubic meters, from Hungary 1.5 billion cubic meters and from Poland 0.5 billion cubic meters. Nearly all these volumes were sent for storage in “customs warehouse” regime in underground gas storage facilities and only 1.7 million cubic meters were promptly re-exported (transiting) to the EU countries according to the orders of the owners of this gas.

At the same time, gas output from Ukraine in the shorthaul mode has reached 55.8 million cubic meters since the beginning of the year, namely, some 2.0 thousand cubic meters to Slovakia, some 42.1 million cubic meters to Hungary and 13.7 million cubic meters to Poland.

Since the launch of the service, some 24 non-resident customers and five Ukrainian companies have used the shorthaul service.

It should be reminded that the shorthaul service, which was introduced by the Gas TSO of Ukraine since January 1, 2020, allows the company’s customers to order gas transportation between European countries across Ukraine at a special favourable tariff. And in combination with the “customs warehouse” service from Operator of Gas Storage Facilities (JSC Ukrtransgaz), foreign and domestic customers are offered convenient and attractive conditions for storing gas in Ukrainian UGS facilities.
